Questa pagina è dedicata alla visualizzazione dei modelli 3D delle cavità di alcune aree carsiche Toscane. La modalità di visualizzazione, pur non essendo adatta per misure precise, è particolarmente suggestiva perché permette di intuire l’inquadramento nello spazio delle singole cavità e di percepire la forma dei complessi carsici, confrontare le singole grotte e, perché no, stimolare nuove esplorazioni.
La pagina è in gran parte frutto del lavoro di Danilo Magnani del Gruppo Speleologico Archeologico Apuano, che ha pazientemente collezionato i dati dei rilievi ed ha usato il software CSurvey per generare i vari file “tridimensionali”; ha poi sovrapposto ai dati dei rilievi varie mappe e i rispettivi dati di elevazione (DTM).
Il risultato è visualizzabile direttamente nel browser grazie al tool CaveView che, a partire dai dati CSurvey (elaborati con Therion), genera il modello in assonometria o prospettiva, esegue il rendering delle cavità ed, infine, sovrappone le mappe. Il tool è molto flessibile, perché consente all’utilizzatore, con semplici click di mouse, di cambiare il punto di osservazione ed il livello di zoom, di scegliere una particolare grotta dall’elenco ed apprezzarne l’estensione, di visualizzare caposaldi e tante altre cose… basta giocare un po’ col menu a lato. Particolarmente suggestiva è la visualizzazione a tutta pagina, che si ottiene premendo il tasto ‘f’ oppure con l’apposito pulsante. Caveview è anche compatibile con smartphone e altri dispositivi mobili.
L’area rappresentata, al momento, raccoglie tutte le grotte che si sviluppano dalla zona settentrionale delle Alpi Apune, alla zona del Monte Corchia fino al fiume Serchio. Le mappe utilizzate sono: la Carta Tecnica Regionale (cartografia ufficiale del Catasto delle Grotte Toscane) sia in bianco e nero che a colori, la carta geologica, le Orto Foto Carte, la mappa Open Street Map. E’ possibile selezionare il particolare modello da visualizzare e la relativa mappa tramite il menu di CaveView (cliccando sul primo pulsante in alto ed utilizzando il menu a tendina).

This page is dedicated to the display of 3D models of the cavities in some Tuscan karst areas. The display mode, while not suitable for precise measurements, is particularly impressive because it allows you to get a sense of the spatial orientation of individual cavities and perceive the shape of karst complexes, compare individual caves, and even inspire new explorations.
The page is largely the result of the work of Danilo Magnani from the Speleological Archaeological Group of Apuano, who painstakingly collected survey data and used the CSurvey software to generate various “three-dimensional” files. He then overlaid various maps and their elevation data (DTM) onto the survey data.
The result is viewable directly in the browser thanks to the CaveView tool, which, based on CSurvey data (processed with Therion), generates the model in axonometric or perspective, renders the cavities, and finally overlays the maps. The tool is very flexible because it allows users, with simple mouse clicks, to change the point of view and zoom level, select a specific cave from the list and appreciate its extent, view anchors, and many other things… just play around with the side menu. Particularly impressive is the full-page view, which is obtained by pressing the ‘f’ key or using the dedicated button. CaveView is also compatible with smartphones and other mobile devices.
The represented area currently includes all the caves that extend from the northern area of the Apuan Alps, in the Monte Corchia area, to the Serchio River. The maps used include the Regional Technical Map (official cartography of the Tuscan Cave Cadastre) in both black and white and color, the geological map, Ortho Photo Cards, and the Open Street Map. You can select the specific model to view and its corresponding map through the CaveView menu (by clicking on the first button at the top and using the dropdown menu).
